diSOLVE

Winter maintenance decisions are often made quickly, with limited information and real environmental tradeoffs. For this project, I developed a GIS and Python-based decision-support model to evaluate localized winter road icing risk by integrating terrain, road geometry, solar exposure, and weather behavior.

Rather than treating roads uniformly, the model highlights where icing is more likely to occur, supporting more targeted, efficient, and environmentally conscious winter maintenance strategies. The work was guided by real public works constraints—prioritizing clarity, repeatability, and practical use over theoretical complexity.
